DRUMMER - EDUCATOR - WRITER
Paul Christophersen has been a passionate drummer for nearly five decades and a drum educator since 2007. He opened his teaching studio, Drum Studio Colorado, in Erie, Colorado in 2014 to share his musical experiences with drummers of all interests and playing levels. He is is currently the drummer for modern Americana band Barn Ghost.
A native Iowan, Paul began rudimental drumming at age 10, consuming nearly every school musical opportunity available into college. At age 11 he received his first drum set and began jamming with childhood friends in garage bands the DOWS, the NuTones and PUSTIF DX.
Shifting his interest to writing, Paul attended Iowa State University earning a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communications and minors in Music and English. At ISU he was a music critic for the Iowa State Daily, and interned in Los Angeles with the now defunct U.S. edition of U.K. drumming magazine Rhythm. At Iowa State he joined his first professional band, indie-rockers the Masque.
After graduation Paul relocated to northern Colorado, where he played with power-pop trio Armchair Martian and blues-rock act the Howlers. A move to Denver resulted in three decades on the blues, roots and songwriter scenes. He was a member of Built For Comfort, Smokin' Tweed, Sol~Fed~Joe, Kenny Perkins, the Informants, Nick O’Connor, Words In Flight and now - Barn Ghost. Paul has also performed with the Geritols, Twilight Motel, Constant Tourists, Paul Iwancio, the Dave Dardine Project and others.
